Mirissa is the south coast's most famous beach town — the launch point for blue-whale cruises, a palm-fringed crescent of sand, and a lively evening scene — roughly an hour and a quarter from Hikkaduwa.
Mirissa lies around 55 to 60 kilometres east of Hikkaduwa, past Galle and Weligama, and the drive takes roughly an hour to an hour and a half depending on traffic. From about November to April its harbour is the departure point for whale- and dolphin-watching boats that head out in search of blue whales, sperm whales, and spinner dolphins. The catch is the early start: boats leave around dawn, so from Hikkaduwa you need a reliable pre-dawn transfer.
We regularly run these early-morning pickups, timing your departure so you reach the harbour relaxed and ready to board. Beyond the whales, Mirissa rewards a daytime visit with its beach, the climb up Parrot Rock, Coconut Tree Hill, and Secret Beach tucked around the headland. In the evening the beachfront restaurants come alive with fresh seafood and music.
We quote a fixed price up front and can arrange a wait-and-return or a late pickup if you plan to stay for sunset and dinner. Combining Mirissa with a surf stop in Weligama or a walk around Galle Fort on the way back to Hikkaduwa is easy — just let us know and we will map out the timing. Prefer a fully arranged morning? Yes — this is one of our most common requests. Boats usually leave around dawn, so we collect you from your hotel in Hikkaduwa well before sunrise and time the drive to reach Mirissa harbour with time to spare.
Of course. We will arrange a return pickup for the evening so you can enjoy Mirissa's beachfront restaurants and still travel back to Hikkaduwa safely.
